Off-Camera Lighting Workshop

This workshop will focus on the techniques used and discussed by Strobist founder David Hobby. Rather than relying on large studio lighting, the Strobist approach relies on small flashguns to provide some or all of the light for a photo. The first workshop will introduce the Strobist “movement” and talk about the gear required for it. After a quick “how-to”, the workshop will become more hands-on for you to try out the techniques. Strobist gear will be available so you do not need to bring anything apart from some enthusiasm and a camera with a standard hot-shoe (we will have demonstration cameras).

It’s recommended that you understand the basics of exposure before coming to the workshop. In other words, you know about ISO, shutter-speed and aperture and how they relate.

Our website is now relatively up to date with an events calendar, however there are lots of incomplete pages so the old site is still available. The new site will hopefully be a useful resource for our members, and if you would like to contribute with any tutorials or articles, let us know.

  • HI, followed links to get here from jon stammers comments on strobist site. As a local pro and strobist I would be interested in hearing about any strobist related stuff going on. We use of camera lighting skils every day in commercial jobs so may have something to offer in return.
