Hi guys

Everybody who took pictures at FUSION 2009, they are looking for photos for their websites and for printed promotion material!

Please read Matt’s message below:

Tim is after some high resolution photos from fusion to be used in
printed promotional materials, photographers will of course be
credited. You can submit them via a webpage or FTP (or you can drop
off a CD, email me if you want to do that info@mattgrum.com):

website:
http://drop.io/fusion2009

FTP Username: photos@fusionyork.co.uk
Password: fusion2009
FTP Server: ftp.fusionyork.co.uk (port 21)

Also anyone who hasn’t submitted their images yet for the website or
wants to resubmit them, can they scale them to at least 1000×666 for
landscape and 533×800 for portraits (or thereabouts). All the online
photos will be credited and watermarked (photographers are of course
entitled to watermark the images themselves).

Matt

Cheers,

Martin

Illustrating a Literature Website of the English Department

Hello PhotoSoc Members!

We have received an email from some postgrads of the English department who want to create a literary website for University of York students to showcase their own short fiction.

They are desperate for nice and catchy photos to spice up their website!

It would be great if PhotoSoc members could take and send them pictures around the theme of books and writing to illustrate the site.

They would appreciate our help and it would be a great chance for the photographer to get his/her work seen, as they are fully credited on the website!

So grab your cameras and send them something arty!

Please send the photos directly to

Katie McCarron <kmm504@york.ac.uk>

Cheers

Martin

Talk on Monday – Matt Grum

PhotoSoc Talk – Matt Grum on light

-> Monday 16th March at 8pm in D/056

The word “photography” comes from the Greek φώς (phos) “light” + γραφίς (graphis) “stylus”, “paintbrush” or γραφή (graphê) “representation by means of lines” or “drawing”, together meaning “drawing with light.” – Wikipedia

Light is fundamental to everything we do in photography yet the way in which it behaves can seem confusing at times. This talk will explore the properties of light in a non-technical way through the use of live demonstrations, and explain how this can be used to benefit different types of photography.

Trip to Newcastle this Saturday:

We will be meeting outside the YUSU Student Centre (Goodricke) at 12.30pm to take a bus into town. We will take one of the trains that leaves around 1pm.

Once in Newcastle we’ll embark on a walk to photograph some of the old medieval sights including the walls and keep. When the sunset approaches we’ll try to photograph the Millenium bridge (see http://farm1.static.flickr.com/100/260646498_d6a8aa6091.jpg) and take some photos along the river. Then we can either have dinner or take the train straight back to York.

In case the weather is slightly damp we can visit some of the indoor attractions such as the Discovery museum and some of the galleries such as the Baltic Mill. There is also a large variety of pubs and eating establishments in the area.

If you are coming and would rather meet at the rail station in York, please get in touch so we can put your details on the travel form for YUSU.

A facebook event has been created here http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=55328108226&ref=mf. Please become a fan of our new Page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/York-PhotoSoc/52822554753) which allows us to keep better in touch than with the previous group.

Next Monday (16th March)

Matt Grum will be giving a talk on photography and light. Highly recommended – details will be emailed shortly.
