Week 4 Newsletter

Hi all,

Thanks everyone who attended our events this week, we really hope you got something out of them, particularly some good photos! If you did, put them on our Flickr account so everyone else can see.

Week 4

This week coming we have the first of the Photoshop tutorials planned. On Thursday (5/11/09) at 7.30 in D/104, our digital officer Joe and communications officer Sam will be giving a demonstration on the very basics of using Adobe Photoshop. If you are very new to, or have never before used Photoshop, then this is the perfect workshop for you! More advanced workshops will be held later in the term.

Outdoor Soc Walk

As we told you in the Welcome Talk in Week 2, we are planning on doing a trial trip with Outdoor Soc for Sunday of Week 4 (08/11/09). The walk will be to Fountains Abbey, which is the largest abbey ruins in the country, set in the beautiful Northern countryside. At the moment for non-members of Outdoor Soc, ticket prices (which covers your travel to Fountains Abbey) are £8. Please email us if you are interested in attending this walk, because the more people that go, the more we can subsidise the tickets from our budget. We will let you know on Monday where and when you can get the tickets from, and how much they will cost, depending on how many of you are interested.

Competition!

We will be holding a competition this term with the theme of “Motion”. The deadline will be next Sunday (08/11/09) so start taking photos! Email them to us atphotosoc@yusu.org with the email title of Motion Competition. We are planning on having the photos judged independently in Week 5, and a showcase and talk from the winners and any other members wanting to talk about their work in Week 6.

Etcetera Magazine

We were recently contacted about an exciting new project taking off on campus:

“We are establishing a new arts magazine called 'etcetera' which will aim to provide a platform for the creativity of all students at the University of York. We hope to include submissions of short prose, poetry, short drama pieces, drawing, photography, painting and design and also to work closely with relevant societies within the university.

I am writing in the hope that the photography society would be interested in cooperating with us. As a society interested in creativity and the arts I expect that you have many members who would be interested in submitting their work for us to publish. We can be found on various sites;

facebook as the group Etcetera York

our blog http://www.etceteratheartsmagazine.blogspot.com/

and our website etcetera-arts ”

Ema Greswell”

If anyone is interested in having their work published then contact  Ema through one of those links!

See you Thursday!
