Week 6 Newsletter pt2

Hi everyone,

Martin's strobes and studio set up workshop is on Monday (16/11/09), sorry the day was forgotten to be mentioned!

Also, we have a had a request from Louisa McLellan to photograph an after school club's parade in town on Thursday. The club is called 109, and next week they are leading a lantern parade around town, on stilts with fairy lights etc. It starts at 6pm from the Minster, and if anyone wants to take these photos then please let us know so we can tell Louisa that someone will definitely be there. Of course as many of you are allowed to turn up as you like!

See you Monday

Thank you everyone who has entered our Motion competition, we will have the results within the next week or 2 as well as a presentation evening for any members and the competition winners to talk about their work!

This week Martin will be giving a workshop on using strobes as well as an induction on how to set up the studio lights. This would be an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in hiring out the studio kit but doesn’t know where to begin! The workshop will be on Monday 16th at 8.30, in D/056 (the Derwent room where we had our welcome talk).

Advanced Photoshop Workshop

Hi everyone,

In conjunction with last week's Photoshop Basics workshop, Joe will be doing the Advanced workshop tomorrow evening in G/169 at 7.30pm. This is an upstairs computer room in the new James College, formerly Goodricke. Joe said:

"I'll be going over slightly more advanced subjects (as the name suggests), which really involve using combinations of the areas that were gone over in the last session (but don't worry if you weren't there, it's still not that tricky!), and going over a couple of basic correction techniques, like the healing brush and the clone stamp. If anyone has any requests of anything they'd like to see in the session then feel free to email me at jeb509@york.ac.uk and I'll endeavour to incorporate them."

Hope to see everyone there!

Also, many of you have entered our Motion Competition, but whilst we are still trying to find judges, we have extended the deadline until this Sunday, so good luck to everyone!

(no subject)

Hey guys!

Just a quick reminder that tonight is the first in a season of photoshop sessions for this year, and will be held at 7:30pm in room D/104. This is upstairs in Derwent. If you’re standing at the doors next to the vending machines, looking straight at the bar, look to your left and you’ll see some stairs: head up, turn right, and it’s around there somewhere.

I want to stress that the basic photoshop session is really basic, and that for some of you this will be like teaching your grandmother to suck eggs. I’ll be covering:

  • The workspace
  • Palettes
  • Filetypes
  • General settings
  • Tools
  • Layers
  • Filters
  • Adjustment layers

and maybe a couple of over things if we’ve got time. I won’t be offended if you don’t turn up because you’re confident you know how to work with all this. Enjoy the extra time! Use it to eat, sleep, or anything else you’d care to do.

No laptops required. This is going to be more of a lecture than a workshop, so I’d also recommend avoiding this if you don’t feel like sitting in a room that’s growing steadily warmer over the course of an hour, or if you’ve had a long day already. Interactive session next time, I promise!

[and I'm really sorry I didn't send this earlier!]
