Reasons Why You Should Run For A Position:

1) It’s a great experience and tons of fun !

2) Looks good on your C.V-Build a diverse skill set.

3) You get to help the society grow in a chosen direction, this could be something that you are otherwise interested in but can now take up more seriously if you like!

Any member of the society can stand for Election! If you aren’t a member, you can always sign up at the AGM/Elections.

Remember: No committee members means no PhotoSoc!

Even if you are not thinking of running for the election please come to our AGM as we need a certain percentage of our members to vote. So come select your new committee :)

Thursday

Also, for those of you that didn’t get the message, this Thursday Joe is holding another session:

For all of those who turned up to the last session feel free to switch off for a second or two, but for everyone else: PHOTOSHOP PROJECTS.

What I’m asking you to do is grab a picture that you’ve taken recently (or take one especially for the workshop, should you want to), and apply some of the techniques you’ve learned from it this term. The original idea was to give you a set of intructions and let you generate something based on those, but time is running short now (sorry again) and I’m sure this is easier for all involved. Bring along a before and after comparison picture of what you’ve done and we’ll have a show and tell session! I won’t be teaching, and I won’t be bringing my own stuff, so you must bring something to show off!

Here are some links to get you started, but feel free to search around for something else should you wish to:

Week 8 Newsletter

Hi everyone,

Firstly, our AGM has been moved to next week, (Week 9), time/date details coming soon. Please make sure you attend and keep PhotoSoc going! Secondly, Thursday’s Studio Workshop was very successful - hopefully more of you will want to hire out the studio kit now you know how it works – thanks Martin!

So this week, we should be photographing the Fusion dress rehearsal, we will let you know when this will be as soon as we hear back from the Fusion committee. Most likely this will be Thursday this week, in Central Hall.

Also for this week we are subsidising £2 for members to go on the Outdoor Soc trip to Richmond (not Ripley!) Castle this Sunday. If you buy the tickets from Outdoor Soc, we will then refund you the £2 at our next meeting.

Here is a copy of the Outdoor Soc information:

The market town of Richmond – from the Norman French riche monte meaning ‘strong hill’ – has grown up around the Norman Castle which still dominates the town today. Visitors can climb to the top of the keep for magnificent views of the town of Richmond.

You can also visit the town of Richmond, which is famous for its stunning Georgian architecture and rich history. Richmond, North Yorkshire is a town of unique character and beauty which has changed little through the centuries.

With the variety of shopping and its many pubs, hotels and restaurants, the proximity to the most stunning scenery anywhere to be seen, Richmond remains one of the most beautiful and rewarding places to visit in the Country. Lewis Carroll, the author of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking Glass’ went to school here. There is also a museum and some good pubs!

Look at http://www.richmond.org/guide/index.html or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richmond_Castle for more details.

*You have a choice of:

1) a normal long walk which will not involve much sight seeing unless you have time at the end

2) a medium walk which will consist of walking and then sight seeing in the afternoon

3) just sightseeing

*For those wishing to visit the Castle, the cost is £4 for adults or £3.20 for concessions. It is free for English Heritage Members or those with an Overseas Visitor Pass.

The cost of the walk is as normal, *£6 for members and *£8 for non-members and can be bought in the usual way either:

1) at sign ups on Tuesday or Thursday at Vanbrugh stalls opposite V Bar between 12 and 2pm

2) at http://www.yusu.org/shop

after 3pm on Thursday

Outdoor Soc are going to meet at the usual time, 8.50am outside James College, by the white benches, returning around 6pm.

So, look out for our coming email about Fusion, the AGM, and Matt Grum’s talk next week. Don’t forget to buy your Richmond Castle ticket this week!
